Did You Know? If a 135-pound person wanted to burn off the 250 calories contained in the average 20-ounce bottle of soda, they would have to walk three miles in 45 minutes; or play vigorous basketball for 40 minutes; or bike vigorously for 22 minutes!
Fact
Water, water everywhere, so why don’t we drink? Sodas, sugary juices, and alcohol have taken over as the beverage of choice in today’s American diet. In his book A Physician’s Guide to Natural Health Products That Work, James A. Howenstine, M.D. states “The United States ranks first among countries in soft drink consumption. The per-capita consumption of soft drinks is in excess of 150 quarts per year, or about three quarts per week.” And that number does NOT include sugary “-ades”, artificially sweetened fruit juices or the newest entry into the beverage market, so-called energy drinks.
Barry Popkin, PhD, a research scientist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ranks water as the number one beverage required by the human body. Water has 100% of what you need – no calories or additives. When it comes from the tap, an 8 oz. glass costs a fraction of a penny. It should be noted that there has been no quantified evidence that bottled water is better for you when compared to clean tap water.
Our bodies are mostly water, about 60 to 70 percent. Our muscles, lungs, and yes, our brains all contain a lot of water. Without pure, clean, water, our kidneys would be overworked and the waste our body manufactures through normal cull function could not be removed from our bodies, creating a toxic condition that is not conducive to continued metabolism. In other words, we would die!
The average person needs about a milliliter of fluid for every calorie burned. That’s about eight 8-ounces glasses for a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet.
Benefit
Water carries out a variety of critical metabolic tasks, things like making enough urine to flush away toxic by-products of digestion and metabolism and other wastes, maintaining blood volume, preventing body salts from getting too concentrated, and replenishing whatever water you lose.
Solution
Fill a CAMP21 water jug every day and keep it on your desk or in clear view. When the jug is empty, you’ve completed your goal!
